My passport was glanced at briefly when I checked in in Seattle and when I transferred planes in Paris, but I didn’t go through immigration or customs or anything in Munich. Just walked through the open, unmanned turnstile. Hope this doesn’t create a problem when I try to leave…

Its called EU. France > Germany is like Seattle > LA now. There are more checks on ground though. They probably are more lax because of all the security just to get into the airport.
Better safe than sorry. There’s no excuse for anybody to be lax. US, EU, where ever one may be, we deserve the right to have a peace of mind in our travels… the least thing that they can do is to conduct decent security checks.
