One thing that really struck me in Marrakesh was the number of languages that people spoke. It seemed like every shopkeeper spoke at least six different languages – Arabic, French, English, Japanese, German, Spanish…
In the US, it seems like learning a foreign language is something reserved for the wealthy. Seeing Marrakesh made me realize what a joke that is. And so my New Year’s resolution is to become conversational in Spanish and learn some French. But I’m getting a head start by beginning now – I’ll be doing a Pimsleur French lesson everyday and working my way through Harry Potter in Spanish. This will be interesting…

I can empathize. I’m studying on exchange in Denmark and pretty much daily end up hearing conversations in Danish, French, Spanish, Icelandic, German, and Dutch. And everyone speaks English. Makes me feel pretty ignorant.
maybe is because everybody speaks english thats why americans doesn’t take seriously to learn a foreign language. what is kind of weird because there is a lot of diferent languages been spoken in EUA so you have a lot of chances to practice, mostly spanish i guess. I been trying to learn some french but there is not a lot of speakers in mexico, anyway learning is fun.
jajajajaja, i just got some mistakes in my comment, im still learning your language
