Leaving a friend’s house at about midnight last night, I got in my car and was about to start it when something made me turn around. It looked like there was something lying in my backseat and OH MY GOD it was a person! I leapt out of the car and turned back to see a dirty, disheveled man exiting my car looking rather embarrassed. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I just needed a place to sleep.” I told him it was ok and asked him if everything was ok inside. He told me it was, thanked me for not being upset, shook my hand, and walked off.
After calling my friend to warn the rest of her guests to check their backseats when they left, I began to think about the event. I never locked my car doors before. I always figured that if someone’s going to steal something, I’d rather not have them break a window. But I never expected they’d still be there when I got back. Maybe I will start locking my doors after all.
Then again, my car’s sitting unlocked my driveway right now, so I guess old habits just die hard.

Reason #54 for why a 2 seated is great. No backseats :)
I had my car stolen from the streets of Seattle (directly under the big AAA sign next to Seattle Center) during Folklife a few years ago. I lock my car if I step outside of line of sight.
I would have had a heart attack.
Side note, I started eating a lot of bananas lately too. Then I read stuff like too much potassium can be bad for you (not sure if that’s true, although too much of anything can be bad is the general rule) and that the large of amount of starch can make you fat. So I’m going to reduce my intake. Though you seem to be someone who won’t get fat no matter what he eats. Just a warning though!
I have a friend who was attacked by a man who was hiding in her back seat when she got into her car a few years back. Always lock your door, and always check the back seat before you sit down.
I had this exact same experience in downtown Flagstaff a couple years ago. Except the guy was sitting up front and my drunk friend who had just called shotgun said ‘oh… someone already has it.’
